The first special event of the Fauquier County Public Library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program will be held Saturday, June 14th at all library locations. “Spin, Pop, Boom!” will be presented by Mad Science of DC and illustrates the 2014 summer reading program’s science and math theme. The kick-off marks the beginning of eight weeks of special programs and activities for children, teens and adults.

The children’s summer reading program theme is Fizz Boom Read. Teens will enjoy Spark a Reaction, while adults explore Literary Elements. The summer reading program really is for everyone, regardless of age.

For Children:

“Spin, Pop, Boom!” is a highly interactive and action-packed program featuring science demonstrations and experiments – illustrating that science can be fascinating and fun. The program is aimed at children from kindergarten to 5th grade.

For Teens:

The first special event for teens is a visit by co-authors Amie Borst and her teenage daughter Bethanie as they discuss their book “Cinderskella.”

For Adults:

Forrest Pritchard, farmer and author of “Gaining Ground: A Story of Farmer’s Markets, Local Food and Saving the Family Farm,” will discuss how his family saved their farm, Smith Meadows, one of the first “grass finished” farms in the country, while staying true to their roots.
