  • Photography and Videography

Photography and Videography The Fauquier Public Library prides itself on providing a safe and enjoyable experience to all its patrons and visitors, offering an atmosphere free from disturbance and interference. To protect the privacy of library users, the library board has approved the following policy for photography, filming, and audio and video recording in the library. Library's Photography/Recording The library reserves the right to document its services and the public's use of the library by taking photographs and making video or audio recordings of its programs, events, activities and their participants for use in brochures, flyers, web pages, or other promotional materials. To ensure the privacy of all individuals, including children, images will not be identified using personal information or full names without written approval from the photographed subject or parent/guardian if a minor. In some instances, a patron's first name may be included with a photograph, unless the library is instructed that this is not acceptable to the individual or the individual's parent/guardian. Those wishing not to be photographed or recorded should inform the photographer or library staff. Others' Photography/Recording Casual amateur photography and videotaping is permitted in library facilities for patrons and visitors wanting a remembrance of their visit. All other photography or recording inside the library requires prior permission. Permission to photograph individuals must be granted by those individuals or their guardians. Any such photographers are responsible for arranging all necessary releases and permissions from persons who are filmed or photographed. Failure to arrange all necessary releases and permissions may result in suspension of library privileges, as discussed herein. The library's sample Photo Release form may be used. The library welcomes news media photographers and reporters documenting stories or projects that directly involve the library and its programs, resources and services, provided that advance notice is given, patron use of the library is not impeded, and the provisions of this policy are followed. No commercial photography or recording inside the library is permissible without the written permission of library administration, which shall set forth the conditions under which the photography or recording may take place. The library requires credit, in print, in any finished product when photographs/video recordings are used for commercial purposes. See attached Permission for Commercial PhotographyNideography in Fauquier Public Library building form. Failure to obtain the library's prior, written permission for commercial photography/videography may result in suspension of library privileges as discussed herein. Non-flash photography and personal videos are permitted at library programs and events for personal use, not for publication or broadcast, provided it is not disruptive and does not capture any identifiable likenesses of individuals without their permission. Taking photographs at author events is subject to the wishes of the individual author. Community organizations holding scheduled events or meetings in the library study or meeting rooms may arrange for their own photography or video recording of their event. Adopted: 1/25/2024

  • Library Facilities’ Grounds

Library Facilities’ Grounds Camping is prohibited on all property managed by the Fauquier County Library Board of Trustees. Camping means: sleeping out-of-doors; erecting or setting out a temporary shelter out-of-doors, including, but not limited to a tent, cardboard box, sleeping bag, or newspapers; or cooking over an open flame or fire out-of-doors. Library staff should notify a person who appears to be camping that they are in violation of the library’s policy relating to use of the grounds and facilities. If library staff observes any person acting in violation of this rule after having been notified, library administration shall contact the Fauquier County Sheriff and ask that the offender be charged with violating Va. Code Ann. § 18.2-119 , “trespass after having been forbidden to do so.” Adopted: 10/19/05

  • Fines and Recovery of Overdue Materials

Fines and Recovery of Overdue Materials Library materials are purchased for use by all citizens of Fauquier County. The Fauquier County Public Library establishes regulations for the loan of materials, including circulation periods, renewal processes, and fines for late return. The individual who chooses to keep materials long past the due date, or who refuses to settle unpaid fines or fees , compromises his/her borrowing privileges with the library. The library will attempt to recover overdue materials and will notify patrons of unpaid fines and fees according to guidelines established by the Library Board. In the event that the library is unsuccessful in recovering overdue materials, relevant information will be given by the library to the County Attorney for appropriate legal action. Adopted: 11/20/03

  • Interlibrary Loan Guidelines

Interlibrary Loan Guidelines Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests will be accepted from patrons who are residents, work, attend school, or own property in Fauquier County. Patrons who have paid out-of-county fees for library cards may also make ILL requests. Patrons who use the library as reciprocal borrowers must place ILL requests at their “home” library in the county/town where they reside. ILL requests will be accepted at the reference desk, by telephone, or electronically through the Fauquier County Public Library Web site. Patrons must place the ILL request with a valid, 10-digit permanent Fauquier County Library Card number. The library will neither request nor lend material on ILL that is in current and/or in recurring demand. Materials that are considered fragile or rare will not be requested or loaned. Requests to borrow or lend audio visual materials, duplicates of titles already owned, or material that can be inexpensively copied from library holdings will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Patrons are responsible for a $3 postage charge for each successfully filled ILL request. This charge must be paid when picking up the item. The library will make no more than five (5) requests per patron at any one time. The Fauquier County Public Library card that was used to initiate the ILL request and a signature of the requestor is required before the material will be released. A parental signature for patrons under 18 will also be required. Requests to renew materials received through ILL must be made in time to reach the lending library before the initial due date of the material. An overdue fee of $0.25 (cents) per day per loan will be charged. Patrons are responsible for charges or fines imposed by the lending library. If a patron does not wish to borrow an item on which charges are imposed, it must be stipulated when the request is made. Lost or damaged material must be paid for in full by the requesting patron according to the price set by the lending library.

  • Depot Policy | Fauquier Library

Bealeton Depot Room Policy The Fauquier County Public Library maintains the former Bealeton Depot, located adjacent to the Bealeton branch library as a meeting room intended for the exchange of information and ideas. To that end, priority is given to library-sponsored programs and activities that supplement and enhance library services. Fauquier County or other local government agencies may use the Depot for official business and are given priority. As available, the Depot may be rented by non-profit or not-for-profit organizations engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, charitable or civic activities that are consistent with the library’s mission. Businesses may rent the room for educational meetings and training purposes. After library or government use, priority is given to non-profits, not-for-profit organizations or businesses based in Fauquier County. The Depot may only be reserved by an adult 18 years or older. The Library Board of Trustees has established guidelines for room use and fees for the use of the Depot. The library is unable to accommodate events of a social or personal nature (e.g. birthdays, funerals, wedding receptions, reunions, playgroups, etc.) in the Depot. Commercial activity and/or solicitation are prohibited. Fundraising, unless it benefits the Fauquier County Public Library or the Friends of the Fauquier County Public Library, is not allowed. Admission fees may not be charged to people attending meetings or events. Publicly funded institutions and accredited educational facilities may charge fees to cover the cost of materials and supplies. The Depot may be reserved up to ninety days in advance. Except for library and library-related programs, groups may not use the meeting room more than once a month. Regular meeting times are not guaranteed. A single one-time event or a limited series of meetings may be scheduled at the discretion of the library director. All users must adhere to the library’s Code of Conduct and Depot use must not interfere with, impede or disrupt the public’s normal use of the library. Use of the meeting rooms by an organization does not constitute endorsement of its policies or beliefs. Publicity must state the name and address of the sponsoring organization or the name and telephone number of the organization contact person. Publicity must not state or imply that the program is jointly sponsored by the library. Groups should not advertise use of the meeting room until their reservation has been confirmed. Groups failing to comply with any part of this policy or established procedures may be denied further use of the meeting room. A denial may be appealed to the Library Board. Activities sponsored by Fauquier County or the library are not subject to the guidelines of this policy. Adopted: 11/19/19
