- Community Partnerships
Community Partnerships The Fauquier County Public Library’s resources, involvement, and leadership in the community are extended through partnerships with businesses, institutions, organizations, and other County departments. The library recognizes that partnerships can enhance its image, increase its visibility, provide funds or gifts to offset special programs and services, and help introduce new services. Library partners will benefit from increased exposure and visibility through their involvement with the library. Only entities deemed appropriate and compatible with the mission, goals, and policies of the library will be considered for potential partnership. Library partnerships may include: Cooperative/reciprocal agreements that are generally on-going and involve an exchange of services between the Fauquier County Public Library and other libraries, governmental, or non-profit agencies; Partnerships with corporate entities that involve the donation of services or concessions to the library for a specific project; Sponsorships in which a sponsor donates money and/or services for an activity and receives recognition for a specific period of time from the library. The library will develop each partnership on an individual basis and will document expectations and responsibilities in a written agreement. The library reserves the right to cancel a partnership agreement with an organization that uses the library’s name without prior consent or develops a public image inappropriate to the library’s mission, goals, and policies. Any partnership must respect the library’s commitment to intellectual freedom. The library is solely in charge of the selection of materials, programs, or services. The endorsement of products or services will not be permitted. The library’s policies pertaining to confidentiality of records and privacy will be observed. Adopted: 1/13/10
- Confidentiality of Library Patron Records
Confidentiality of Library Patron Records The Fauquier County Public Library supports every patron’s right to have his or her library records remain confidential. Library records include patron registration data, circulation records, overdue and reserve records, records of participation in library-sponsored programs, record of library visits, and/or any data that contain information linking the patron to specific materials or services used. Each patron over the age of 18 has individual control over his or her borrower’s card. Presentation of the card or appropriate identification permits access to information about the borrower’s current circulation record. Unless a patron has chosen to take advantage of optional electronic convenience services offered by the automated library management system (including, but not limited to “Patron Reading History,” “Patron Material Ratings” and “Preferred Search”), the library will not maintain circulation, overdue, or reserve records except during the actual period of transaction. When no longer needed for library administration purposes, records will be expunged. In compliance with Virginia Code 2.2-3705.7 , no information will be released to any person, agency, or organization, except in response to a valid court order or subpoena, properly presented to the library director. Nothing in this policy shall prevent authorized library personnel from using library records in the administration of their regular duties. Adopted: 9/22/03 Revised: 10/18/07, 10/25/12
- Computer Workstations
Computer Workstations Within the constraints of library priorities, financial capabilities, and availability of space, the Fauquier County Public Library provides devices that allow access to databases, the Internet, word processing, and data management software. The library reserves the right to limit, restrict, or extend computer workstation privileges. Misuse or unauthorized use of library devices by patrons will result in revocation of library privileges. Devices are provided for public use. Library staff provides limited assistance for basic start-up procedures but cannot offer in-depth personal instruction in the use of a device or software applications. Instructional materials and online tutorials are available to help with some software applications. Occasionally basic classes may be held for the public. In general, library staff act as helpers, facilitators, or guides. Library devices may be networked. Patrons may not use the network for any illegal activity. Unauthorized entry into other device, information, or communication services or other resources is not allowed. Patrons may not distribute unsolicited advertising or invade the privacy of others using library devices. Patrons may not use their own hardware with or software on library devices. Users may not save or copy files on the hard drives of library devices. Only library-approved storage devices may be attached to library devices. Patrons may not tamper with or reconfigure computer equipment, software, or data belonging to the library. The Fauquier County Public Library complies with the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code). Unauthorized copying of computer software is an infringement of that law and is not allowed on library devices. - Suspension of Library Privileges
Suspension of Library Privileges The Fauquier County Public Library encourages people of all ages to visit its libraries. Those using the library and its resources have the right to expect a safe, comfortable environment that supports appropriate library services. Patrons exhibiting inappropriate behavior in a Fauquier County Public Library facility may be asked to leave or may be suspended. The Library Board of Trustees has stated that the length of the suspension should match the seriousness of the behavior. Longer suspension periods will be instituted if the problem is particularly egregious, or the inappropriate behavior escalates in severity and reoccurs despite warnings and repeated suspensions. Criminal behavior will result in an indefinite suspension of library privileges. Suspended patrons may not use any branch of the library. Children exhibiting inappropriate behavior in the library may require special consideration. The age of the child and the seriousness of the behavior are factors to weigh when dealing with the inappropriate behavior of a child. A patron who has been suspended for six-months or more must appeal in writing to the Library Board for reinstatement of privileges. Adopted: 3/8/07

- MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR: JANUARY 2024 | Fauquier Library
< Back MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR: JANUARY 2024 Maria Del Rosso Jan 12, 2024 “If you build it, they will come.” On December 18, 2003, the Bealeton branch library opened its doors to the southern Fauquier community. A beautiful building, the 10,000 sq. ft. library took its architectural cues from the “roofy” Bealeton depot that a few years later would serve as its meeting room. From that December day 20 years ago, the branch library has served as the hub of the community. Folks have gathered to light a community Christmas tree, visit with Santa and marvel at the intricate trains as part of the Piedmont Railroaders exhibition. We have hosted youngsters for story hour, National Honor Society tutors, people seeking their GED or learning English as a second language. Older Wiser Learners (OWLS) have gathered to discuss a myriad of topics and share fellowship. And through it all we have checked out thousands of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs. Join us the week of January 22-28 as we mark this important milestone. There will be activities for children and historical displays of the library’s construction. An open house on January 24 will feature a 20-year book display and children’s crafts. Of course, refreshments will be served. Now about that Field of Dreams quote. It should be “If you build, he will come.” But for our purposes, it works for the message this month. We built it and they sure came. Maria Del Rosso Director, Fauquier Public Library Previous Next
