Reading Riot: Be a Summer Reading Super Hero and Win!

Posted by annmcd on

News flash! Just because you’re a teenager, doesn’t mean you can’t partake in the perks of summer reading. We have an awesome lineup of events for rising 6th graders and above with plenty of prizes to sweeten the pot.

Fun Programs

Weekly programs and events will include a robotics demonstration by some of our local teen competitors; a self-defense class taught by a martial arts coach; and even a first aid and babysitting safety workshop that will make you the neighborhood superhero.

If you enjoy hands-on activities, you’ll enjoy origami, knitting and creating all-natural skin care products. Finished products make great gifts!

How about relaxing at our teen movie night? Come see The Avengers (PG-13) with superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and The Hulk. Or bring your own comfy chair and join us on Friday nights for Reel Life: Parent/Teen Relationships Through Six Decades of Film. We’ll be watching and discussing classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Plus — free popcorn!

If all that isn’t enough to excite you, maybe this will float your boat. Every time you attend a teen event, you’re entered into the grand prize drawing, so the more programs you attend, the greater your chance to win. At the end of the summer reading program, one lucky teen at each branch will walk away with a brand new tablet!

Read Books, Write Reviews

Teens can also submit book reviews for cool weekly prizes. The more reviews you submit, the more chances you will earn to win! So grab some books and read, read, read!

Here are a few Superhero story suggestions to get you started. Or stop by any Fauquier Library location and pick up our Super Hero Stories bibliography, with more suggestions for middle and high school students.
