“Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” an unforgettable line from Casablanca, an unforgettable movie.
This month the Book Cellar marks the beginning of its own beautiful friendship.
For 25 years the Friends of the Fauquier Library has been selling books and movies for all ages at bargain prices from this quaint store in the basement of the John Barton Payne building. All proceeds help make the Fauquier Public Library one of the best services available to county residents.
In fact, the Friends gave an amazing $61,000 in 2023 to help bridge the gap between what the library would like to offer and what it can afford. While local government provides most of the funding that the library needs to function, the Friends enhance the library’s collections and programs.
Meet the Author. Sundays @ 2. E-books. Book clubs. Summer Reading Program. STEAM for Tweens. All these and more are made possible by the Friends.
To celebrate the milestone, these indefatigable volunteers will host an open house on October 12. Cider and cookies for all comers. Stop by to enjoy the seasonal treats and leave with a bag full of books.
There are other ways to help the cause. If you love libraries and aren’t part of the Fauquier Friends group, consider joining. Clearing out book shelves? Donate your bounty to the Friends who will be happy to pass them along to a new audience.
The library staff joins me in congratulating the Book Cellar on its quarter century milestone and looks forward to many beautiful years to come.
Here’s looking at you, Friends!
