November 2015 Consumer Reports: Time for a New TV, SUV or Washing Machine?

Posted by vicky on

intro-smartHubTVAngledIs a new TV on your family’s holiday wish list? TVs and many household appliances are reviewed in the November issue of Consumer Reports:

TVs

Are you ready to buy a new TV set? The technology is changing so quickly that it’s often difficult to know what to look for in a TV–high-definition, ultra high-definition, LCD, LED–which one is better? It partially depends on how you plan to use the TV–cable, streaming video? Check out the TV ratings in this isue, organized by TV size, from 60-inch and larger TVS to 29-inch and smaller TVs.

Cell Phone Radiation

Most of us have heard that radiation from cell phones may cause brain cancer. But does it really? Check out the article “Can You Hear Me Now?” which includes some common-sense precautions to take when using your cell phone.

Laundry Time!

Laundry is a chore that never ends. In many new homes, for convenience, the laundry room is now located upstairs instead of hidden away in the basement. If you want to purchase matching washers and dryers to make your laundry room aesthetically pleasing, the “Dynamic Duos” article has some suggestions. The article also includes ratings for other (non-matching) washers and dryers, scored for performance, capacity, and noise, among other things.

Scammers and Con Artists

Thankfully, most of us have never been victims of a scam or con artist. Many scammers target seniors specifically. The article “Lies, Secrets, and Scams” tells the stories of several seniors who were the victims of scammers. The article also lists several places where you can report elder fraud or elder financial exploitation.
