At its latest meeting, the Mystery Book Club discussed The Case of the Murderous Dr. Cream: The Hunt for a Victorian Era Serial Killer.  This was a true-crime narrative about the hunt for one of the first known serial killers, whose poisoning spree in the US, Canada, and England coincided with the birth of forensic science as well as the public’s growing appetite for crime fiction.

New Mobile App For Library Users

Wouldn’t it be great to access your library account at any time, from anywhere – the soccer field, standing in line at the grocery store or while cooking dinner? Now you can with a new and improved mobile app from Fauquier Public Library.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Search the catalog, place holds, renew materials and more directly from your smartphone.
  • Use the Managed Accounts feature to add family members’ accounts so you can manage their holds, renew checkouts and more!
  • Store your library barcode (when you forget your library card but not your phone/device).
  • Access “new and notable” items added to the library’s collection.

The app is available for download in the app store or Google Play – search for “Fauquier public library.”

*The MyLibrary Mobile app will continue to function, however, for the best experience, MyLibrary Mobile App users are encouraged to install the new mobile app.

Oceans of Possibilities, the 2022 Summer Reading Program—Begins Soon! (5.5.2022)

Explore Oceans of Possibilities this summer. Dive into fun programs, solve a mystery to unlock break-in box treasures, or try an underwater mat weaving craft (actually just weaving – water not included).

Plus, in-person programs return, including weekly outdoor story times  and Sundays at the Library.  Long-time favorites like Crafts-on-the-Go, Adult DIYs, STEAM for Tweens, and Online story times will round out the summer.

Special outdoor performances and programs will be offered throughout the summer for kids, teens, adults and families.  The summer reading program wouldn’t be complete without game cards filled with weekly challenges for readers of all ages.

Additional details, including special event dates and times, will be posted soon.

It all starts Monday, June 6; stop by to register and pick up your game card.

Book Cellar News: May 2022

May is a busy month, with Children’s Book Week, Star Wars Day (May the 4th Be With You), Mother’s Day and Memorial Day all celebrated.

Stop by the Book Cellar this month to find books to help you celebrate each of these occasions. Watch for special displays to make it easier to find just the right book.

Earth Day: Then and Now (4.4.2022)

The snow is gone, and the grass is greening up in fields and along the roadsides.  Mixed in with all that tender beauty is a winter’s worth of unsightly trash that has been blown or tossed from cars.  With Earth Day right around the corner, now is a good time to consider what we can do to clean up after ourselves. Project Combines Literacy and the Great Outdoors

(Warrenton, VA) March 28, 2022 – Will Pete the Cat be able to keep his new shoes white?  The Fauquier Public Library invites young readers and their families to take a stroll along the Warrenton Greenway to find out.

Pete the Cat – I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin is the first book for the library’s new Warrenton Greenway StoryWalk®.

The StoryWalk® will officially open on Saturday, April 2 with a ribbon cutting at 9:00 am. (more…)

And the Oscar Goes To …. (3.23.2022)

The phrase “and the Oscar goes to” will be heard dozens of times on Sunday, March 27th.  Familiar faces and newcomers alike will crowd the red carpet then wait with fingers crossed for their name to be called.

This prestigious award recognizes artistic and technical merit in the film industry and has since 1929, when the first Academy Awards were held. Since them, over 3,140 Oscar statues have been awarded.  Fauquier Public Library’s collection includes many former Oscar-winning movies – and the books they were based upon.




 
If you prefer to check out this year’s nominees in preparation for the 2022 awards, we have lots of those too, from Belfast to West Side Story.
