Library Selects Before We Were Yours by New York Times Best-Selling Author Lisa Wingate, for Second Fauquier Community Read
(Warrenton, VA) March 13, 2019 – A thought-provoking and complex tale of two families, two generations apart who are forever changed by a 1930’s adoption scandal has been selected as the Fauquier County Public Library’s 2019 Fauquier Community Read book.
Before We Were Yours, by Lisa Wingate, is a New York Times best-seller and the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award for Historical Fiction.
Hundreds of copies of Before We Were Yours are available for checkout from the library, including print, e-Book and e-Audio formats. Kits designed for book clubs are also available for checkout. Additionally, pass-along copies of the book will be placed in various locations throughout the county. In the spirit of a community read, people are encouraged to pick up the pass-along copies, read it and pass it along to another reader.
The Community Read will include “An Evening with the Author,” Thursday, May 16, at Highland School’s Rice Theater in Warrenton. Wingate will read from Before We Were Yours and discuss her process for research and writing. After a question and answer session, the author will sign copies of the book. Copies of Before We Were Yours will be available for purchase at the event from The Open Book.
The program is free and open to the public, but advance registration is suggested. To register call 540-422-8532 or register online.
This is the Fauquier County Public Library’s second foray into a community read campaign.
“We were thrilled with the response to last year’s book, Thunder Dog, and feel confident that the community will find Before We Were Yours equally compelling,” said Library Director Maria Del Rosso. “It’s a poignant story of a family lost and found and the triumph of sibling love.”
Additional programs that address themes raised in Before We Were Yours have been planned for April and May, including book club discussions and genealogy presentations. The complete list of Fauquier Community Read events can be found in the Program Guide, available at all library locations, or on the Fauquier Community Read page of the library’s website.
Fauquier Community Read is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Fauquier Library, Fauquier Library Board of Trustees, the Nicolaas and Patricia Kortlandt Fund at the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation and these community partners: Discovery Publications, Fauquier County Public Schools, FauquierNow.com, Hampton Inn Warrenton, Piedmont Media—Fauquier Times, Piedmont Press & Graphics and Warrenton Lifestyle Magazine.
