FCPL Hosts Seminar for Student Athletes
(Warrenton, VA) November 6, 2014 – The Fauquier County Public Library, in cooperation with Wakefield School, will host a seminar on Tuesday, November 18, 6 – 7:30 p.m. – The New NCAA and the Rules You Need to Know to Play.
According to the NCAA, over $2.7 billion in athletic scholarships are distributed annually to student athletes, providing these young adults with opportunities to learn, compete and succeed.
This program will provide student athletes with information about NCAA eligibility rules and the information necessary to navigate the complex NCAA eligibility process. It is designed for student athletes and their parents, as well as coaches and school personnel who work with student athletes.
Paul Sipes, Athletic Director, Wakefield School, will lead the presentation, drawing upon 23 years of experience coaching and advising more than 200 NCAA level athletes. Sipes was named VISAA Division 3 Coach of the Year in Girls Basketball in 2013 and VIAAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2012.
“It is a rare and precious thing to be talented enough in a sport to be awarded an athletic scholarship. Talent and hard work are just a small part of the process. Unfortunately, many young people may not have an idea of how far their abilities will take them until very late in the process. Without the right guidance, planning, foresight and understanding of the processes involved in securing an athletic scholarship; students find themselves in a position of not qualifying as seniors for mistakes made in their freshman and sophomore years,” according to Sipes.
This free program will be held at the John Barton Payne bldg., 2 Courthouse Square, Warrenton; no registration is required. To learn more, contact the Fauquier County Public Library at (540) 422-8500 or visit library.fauquiercounty.gov.
