PRESS RELEASE

Fauquier County Public Library Introduces “Internet to Go”

(Warrenton, VA)  April 7, 2019  – Thanks to a PATH Foundation Make-it-Happen grant, Fauquier County residents will soon have access to wireless mobile hotspots through a new library service, “Internet to Go.”

Internet to Go will enable library card holders to connect their computer or Wi-Fi-enabled electronics like smartphones and tablets to the internet via filtered Wi-Fi hotspots. Residents served by wireless providers Verizon and T-Mobile will be able to complete homework assignments, apply for jobs or conduct business even in areas not served by hardwired broadband connections.

The availability of the mobile hotspots will coincide with National Library Week, which begins April 7, 2019.  “It’s fitting to launch this innovative program during National Library Week when we celebrate libraries and their contributions to the community. Internet to Go will open the door for students and their families with no Internet access at home,” noted Maria Del Rosso, Library Director. “It is a great service for the Fauquier community that brings us closer to bridging the gap between those who have access to communications technology and those who don’t.”

Twenty Internet to Go units will be available for checkout with a valid adult library card. Library cards are free to Fauquier County residents, employees and property owners.  To apply for a Fauquier County library card, visit a library branch, or apply for a library card online.

Hotspots can be checked out for 21 days and are not renewable. There are no overages or roaming charges, but each device is assigned a daily data limit of 250 MB. Once the data limit is reached, the device is blocked for 24 hours. A hotspot must be returned to the library from which it was checked out. A fine of $1 per day will be charged for overdue devices.  Visit the Internet to Go page on our website for additional details.

The Fauquier County Public Library welcomes over 22,000 visitors each month. Locations are: Warrenton central library, 11 Winchester St.; Bealeton branch library, 10877 Willow Drive North; and John Marshall branch library, 4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall. Call (540) 422-8500 for more information about library events or locations.
