Fauquier County Library to Conduct Community Survey
Fauquier County Public Library to Conduct Community Survey
(Warrenton, VA) October 11, 2016 — The Fauquier County Public Library is partnering with Research America, Inc., a nationwide provider of public opinion research, to conduct a survey to determine what county residents want and need from their public library. The survey can be accessed at bit.ly/FCPLSurvey or at fauquierlibrary.org beginning Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
The survey, funded by a $25,000 grant from the PATH Foundation, will be used to plan for current and future library services.
This is the first comprehensive assessment of library services undertaken in Fauquier County.
In addition to surveying library cardholders and conducting a focus group discussion with community leaders, Research America will survey residents who never, rarely or infrequently use their local library. No personally identifiable information will be collected.
Public libraries remain central to thriving communities around the United States, although how libraries provide services is changing as quickly as information technology advances.
The Fauquier County Public Library welcomes over 22,000 visitors each month. And, like hundreds of other public libraries around the United States, the library has a critical need to add space for patrons and activities. It has roughly 73% of the space and seats recommended by the Library of Virginia for the population it serves. As a result, the library faces challenges in providing basic services and keeping pace with current technology trends.
“We are excited by the prospect of hearing from the community,” said Library Director Maria Del Rosso. “Whether you are a current user or have never used the library, we want to hear from you. As Fauquier County considers building the first new library in more than a decade, it is vital to listen to the community to know what resources and services will serve well into the 21st century. Equally important, we must ensure that current resources are used effectively while we plan for a new library.”
Residents are invited to visit their local Fauquier County Public Library branch to take the survey online using one of the library’s computers. The survey can also be completed using home or work internet connections. Research America will also survey a random sampling of county residents by phone.
