Cover of September 2018 issue of Consumer Reports featuring "Eat Yourself Healthy"Eat Those Leafy Greens!

We all want to eat healthy foods, but often have difficulty determining which foods are healthy.  “Eat Yourself Healthy” may help. It included sections on leafy greens, which are some of the healthiest foods available, other vegetables and fruits, and fish, with some tips on how to prepare them.  Information on farmers markets and organic produce is also included.

During a power outage, we all wish we had invested in a generator. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the typical American household loses power for around 3 hours each year, but longer outages can occur during weather events such as hurricanes and blizzards. “More Power to You!” has suggestions on the type of generator to look for, depending on the frequency of the power outages your household typically experiences.  The article also includes generator safety tips, a chart to determine your power needs, and reviews of large, small and portable generators.

Looking for a new dishwasher? Most dishwashers are built to last around 10 years.  “The Dirt on Dishwashers” has tips on how to help your dishwasher last longer, such as scraping plates and running full loads instead of partial ones. Reviews for dishwashers and detergents, and an amusing section on the strangest things ever put in dishwashers, are also included.

The following articles and topics are also in this issue:

  • The best frozen veggie burgers
  • Comparison of streaming music services
  • How to create a strong password for your online accounts
  • How to replace a vacuum belt
  • “Sick of Confusing Medical Bills?”
  • “Get the Most Used Car for Your Money,” including reviews
