Paying Less

This month’s cover article is “How to Pay Less for Practically Anything.” It has tips on how to pay less for a variety of items and services, including car insurance, organic foods, appliances, medications and much more, The article also includes information on how to make six different major appliances last longer (dishwashers, vacuums, etc.) and it lists eight things you should never skimp on (sunscreen, vaccines, home insurance and more). 

Frozen Pizza

Did you know that one in eight Americans eats pizza on any given day? If you serve frozen pizza to your family or friends, check out the article “Pie in the Sky.” The article includes tips on how to prepare a better frozen pizza by not defrosting it, adding ingredients, etc. Ratings for 17 cheese and nine vegetable pizzas from popular frozen pizza brands are also included.

 TVs

With the Super Bowl fast approaching, here’s your chance to get a low price on a good TV.  The article “Get More TV for Less” lists five ways to save on TVs, such as buying a leftover model from the previous year. The TV ratings are mostly for smart TVs with 4K resolution and are divided by size of TV, from 60-inch and larger to 46-52 inch TVs.

Each branch of the Fauquier County Library has the print issues of Consumer Reports from 2013 up to the current issue. The Find It Virginia databases have an index to the issues from February 1, 1976 to the current issue, and the full-text of the reviews from January 1, 1999 to June 1, 2009. You can access Find It Virginia from any library computer, or from home with your Fauquier County Public Library card. You can also see past summaries of Consumer Reports prepared by library staff online.
