Hamburger on bun Food safety is Consumer Report’s (CR) August focus with the spotlight directed at meat production and consumption.  E. coli and Salmonella are the biggest culprits.  Ground beef is the “risky stuff” when it comes to E. coli, largely because of how it is made and handled, but also because many of us like to eat our ground beef burgers on the rare side.
