Birds: Books, Programs and Birdwatching Kits (2.15.2022)

It is estimated that 20 percent of the population birdwatches.  This popular activity is great for all ages, can be done just about anywhere and doesn’t require a lot of fancy or expensive equipment.  Check out what your local library has both newbies and experienced birdwatchers alike!

Whether you birdwatch from your backyard, a local park or travel further afield, check out a Birdwatching Kit, now available from Fauquier Public Library.

Learn to identify local birds with this on-the-go birdwatching kit! Available for children and adults, each kit contains the essentials for a successful birding expedition, including binoculars, an Identiflyer Lyric birdsong device, flashcards and the Sibley’s Pocket Guide to Virginia Birds. The juvenile backpack also includes a set of books, activity sheets and a bird bingo game.

Beautiful Birds! Books, Basics and a Free Bird Feeder
Sunday, February 20, 2 p.m. | Virtual | Families

Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) wants to share the joy of birds with your family! Join them from the comfort of your home for a story and beginner bird watching activity. Attendees will also learn how to help birds as a family through the citizen science opportunity, Project FeederWatch.

The first 40 registrants will receive a free bird feeder and feed (one per family). A recording of this program will be posted for on-demand viewing following the event.
