black and purple witch stockings from knee downOctober is just a few days away and that means the spooky season is upon us and children are eagerly awaiting the costume and candy-fest that is Halloween. This year, we encourage kids to visit the library in their Halloween costume from Monday, October 25-Saturday, October 30. Those who do will receive a few treats, but no tricks! While stopping by, we also encourage parents to pick up a few books to get your elementary school reader in the festive spirit.

Here are a few chilling tales to try:

All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn

Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery by Deborah and James Howe; illustrated by Alan Daniel

Coraline by Neil Gaiman

The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright

Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega

Peanuts Countdown to Halloween!: With a Story a Day by Charles M. Schulz; illustrated by Robert Pope

Scary Stories for Young Foxes by Christian McKay Heidicker; illustrated by Junyi Wu

Small Spaces by Katherine Arden

Tailypo! retold by Jan Wahl; illustrated by Wil Clay

Whispering Pines by Heidi Lang & Kati Bartkowski
