Bealeton-Remington Ruritans Fund Library Wish List
(Warrenton, VA) September 16, 2021 – Thanks to a generous donation from the Bealeton-Remington Ruritan Club, Fauquier Public Library will upgrade furnishings at the Bealeton branch library and add new resources for school age children.
The Ruritan’s donation will fund numerous items on the library’s “wish list,” including new tables and activity boards for young children, STEAM kits for school age students, incentives to encourage teens to sign up for library cards and the addition of numerous books to the library’s collection. 40 Kits Added to Library’s Collection

(Warrenton, VA) September 15, 2021 – Thanks to a $2,000 donation from Learning Starts Early (LSE), Fauquier Public Library added 40 new Story Times to Go kits to its book collection for young children.
Story Times To Go include three or four preschool picture books with themes ranging from bugs to zoos. Each kit has an activity sheet that encourages finger plays, rhymes, etc. The kits aim to bring the story time experience into a preschooler’s environment, wherever that may be. (more…)

Virtual Talk Will Feature Best-Selling Author of How We Got To Now: Six Innovations That Made the Modern World
(Warrenton, VA) September 10, 2021 – The Fauquier Public Library will host a virtual discussion with Steven Johnson, author of the bestselling book How We Got to Now: Six Innovations that Made the Modern World.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 6.
The program is part of the Fauquier Community Read, a countywide reading program sponsored by the library.
Filled with surprising stories of accidental genius and brilliant mistakes, How We Got to Now explores the history of innovation, tracing facets of modern life from their creation to their unintended consequences. The library expects How We Got to Now, a New York Times best seller, to spark a community discussion that considers the future by exploring the past.
“Our conversation with Johnson promises a look at a world we generally take for granted with fresh eyes,” Library Director Maria Del Rosso said.
Johnson is the author of 12 books, including Enemy of All Mankind, Farsighted, Where Good Ideas Come From, The Ghost Map and his most recent release – Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer.
He is also the host and co-creator of the PBS/BBC series “How We Got to Now,” the podcast American Innovations and PBS/Nutopia series “Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer.”
Hundreds of copies of How We Got to Now are available at all library locations, as well as kits for book clubs. The book’s adaptation for young readers and the PBS/BBC series “How We Got to Now” are also available for checkout.

“Come on in, it’s cool inside,” greeted shoppers in the early days of air conditioning. How well I remember the welcome gust of cold air when I accepted the invitation and stepped inside the local supermarket or convenience store.
