What We’re Reading: Mystery Book Club, April 2021

Posted on

At its April meeting, the Mystery Book Club discussed Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen, a non-series book. Isabella Waverly assumes a dead girl’s identity and takes a position in Queen Victoria’s household kitchen. Will her deception be discovered, and what price will she pay after a member of the Queen’s retinue dies and Isabella is suspected of poisoning him?

Here’s what members of the Mystery Book Club had to say about Above the Bay of Angels:

What We Liked

  • Well written historical mystery/romance book
  • Many characters based on real persons
  • Descriptive language

What We Didn’t Like

  • Very light on mystery
  • More of an historical fiction/romance book with the usual happy ending
  • Unrealistic events
