Fauquier County Public Library to Host Author Nancy Ross Hugo

(Warrenton, VA) September 5, 2017  ̶  The Fauquier County Public Library will host author Nancy Ross Hugo and Master Gardener Ruthann Litchford for Trees Up Close at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 10 at the John Barton Payne Building. The event will consist of a book talk featuring Hugo’s “Trees up Close” (Timber Press, 2014) followed by a guided nature walk through Old Town Warrenton.

Nancy Ross Hugo is a Virginia garden columnist and five-time author whose books celebrate both the practice of horticulture and the beauty of natural flora. In 2008, she began the Remarkable Trees of Virginia Project in partnership with fine art photographer Robert Llewellyn to document the state’s most beloved and historic trees. Llewellyn’s photographs also appear in “Trees up Close,” where they reveal the unseen complexities and dimensions of tree architecture.

Ruthann Litchford has lived in Virginia for five years and is recognized as a Master Gardener by three states. She previously served on the Board of Directors at Vines Botanical Gardens in Georgia. With knowledge gained from professional and personal gardens alike, she will give participants a new appreciation for their Fauquier flora.

The event will appeal to garden enthusiasts, nature photographers and those looking to learn more about their local landscape. The crossover with Litchford’s nature walk will complement the discussion and interest those looking to apply Hugo’s insight on observing the wonders of botany in their own lives.

The program is free. Copies of “Trees up Close” will be available for purchase and signing by the author. This program is part of Sunday with the Library, a yearlong series sponsored by the Fauquier County Public Library and the Friends of the Fauquier Library.

The Fauquier County Public Library welcomes over 22,000 visitors each month. Locations are: Warrenton central library, 11 Winchester St.; Bealeton branch library, 10877 Willow Drive North; and John Marshall branch library, 4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall.
