Reading Riot: Hidden Treasures for Teens

Posted by Aaron on

As we continue to update the young adult department, we often happen upon some favorites that haven’t been checked out in a while. Read on for our recommendations this week.

Desert sunI’m partial to horses and history so the de Granville Trilogy struck a chord for me. Book one in the series, The Blood Red Horse, was on the Battle of the Books list a while back which indicates that it’s a worthy read. In the story, young Will and his chestnut stallion join the Knights of England on their crusade to the Holy Land. An excellent adventure follows full of life and death, love and loyalty, treacherous friends and noble enemies and through it all a steadfast horse named Hosanna. The follow ups Green Jasper and Blaze of Silver are just as exciting. Enjoy the whole series!

Costume mask and river boatsStravaganza is a time travel series which features teens, known as Stravagante, who are transported to 16th century cities similar to those in Renaissance Italy. In book one, City of Masks, Lucien, who is sick in bed with cancer, begins making journeys to Belleza, a place in a parallel world resembling Venice. He becomes caught up in the political intrigues of the city. Subsequent titles introduce new characters who make similar travels to dazzling cities packed with mystery and danger.

Check out these fine series at any library branch or ask your librarian for recommendations!
