The Basics

The library’s subscription includes U.S. Businesses, U.S. New Businesses, U.S. Healthcare (Physicians and Dentists), U.S. Standard White Pages, U.S. Consumers/Lifestyles and U.S. New Movers/Homeowners.

Business listings include such data as company names, phone numbers, complete addresses, key executive names, SIC Codes, employee size, sales volume, geo-codes for mapping, contact details, franchise and brand information, news, liens, judgments and bankruptcies and credit rating scores.

Residential information includes recent census information, including median household income, median home value, latitude/longitude, and percentage of owner-occupied housing.

All the available databases allow both a quick search and a custom search mode, giving you access to bare-bones information (for example, company name, executive name, city, state, and phone for U.S. businesses) as well as custom options that allow for granularity and targeted list compiling.

Custom Databases and Options

Are you an entrepreneur trying to find similar businesses, along with competitors in your area? The Custom Search in the U.S. Businesses database allows you to query the data by such factors as brands and products; keyword/SIC/NAICS; major industry group; geographic limiters from state down to neighborhood; map-based search, area code; number of employees; sales volume, and more.

Say you’re trying to build awareness of your business or recruit members to your organization (church, school, etc.). With the U.S. New Movers/Homeowners database, you can create mailing lists of new homeowners and new renters and build a targeted ad campaign to reach just that population.

With the U.S. Consumers/Lifestyles database, you can focus your search on lifestyle categories (apparel/fashion/beauty, charitable donor, etc.), purchase behavior and consumer characteristics such as estimated home value, estimated household income, age, marital status, children present, ethnicity, gender, language spoken, religion, political party, female occupation, male occupation, mortgage present, home owner, years in home, year home built, location type, number of units, grandparent present, and veteran present. This database is of particular use to small businesses looking to build a targeted list of individuals to market products and services, nonprofits on the lookout for recruiting or fundraising opportunities, and consumers researching what neighborhoods to move into.

Looking for a doctor or dentist? The U.S. Healthcare (Physicians and Dentists) provides you filters to search for providers by geographic location, primary specialty, board certification, medical school attended and even patients per week.

Mondays – 3:00 p.m. EST (1 hour)
Entrepreneurs and business owners will learn how to use ReferenceUSA to find the mission-critical information to start, manage, and grow a business. Topics include:
• Searching for businesses
• Locating hard-to-find vendors, both locally and nationally
• Locating subject-matter experts and professional services
• Finding investors, venture capitalists, and angels
• Networking with other businesses in your area or industry
• Developing relationships with related business for cobranding opportunities

Anyone interested in understanding the purchase preferences of a community will find this data both intriguing and informative. Learn how to navigate this section of ReferenceUSA and then apply the data to your needs.

ReferenceUSA Big Data and Mapping
Thursdays – 3:00 p.m. EST (1 hour)
Data visualization is the next BIG thing in data. Going beyond static lists of information, ReferenceUSA can help you visualize data elements on a map. Great for understanding how locations relate to each other or seeing densities within a specific area, the ReferenceUSA mapping tools give you a new and powerful way to better understand the landscape. Learn how to build a map to display results and how to manipulate the mapping tools to your advantage.
