For Immediate Release

Warrenton, VA. January 27, 2016 – The new year brings with it the start of tax season. Historically, the Fauquier County Public Library has provided IRS tax forms to the public, and will continue to do so. However, fewer tax forms will be offered in paper format.

According to the IRS, 95 percent of taxpayers filed their tax returns electronically last tax season. As a result, the agency is significantly decreasing the variety of paper forms it offers to agencies like the library.

This year, we expect to numerous federal tax products from the IRS. Once the tax products arrive, they will be placed in display racks for the public to access on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional online options for taxpayers include:
• Online services and tax information for individuals.
• View, download and print tax forms.
• View and download popular tax publications and 1040 instructions on some mobile devices as an ePub-format eBook at no charge.
• Order tax forms by mail.

Selected IRS forms may also be ordered by calling (800) 829-3676.

The State of Virginia no longer provides paper forms to libraries; state tax forms can be obtained online. Forms can also be requested by calling (804) 367-8031.

Free assistance in tax return preparation will be available at all Fauquier County Public Libraries from February 6 – April 13 and is provided by the Foundation for Tax Assistance. Appointments are required. Eligible elderly and low-income county residents should call (540) 422-8465 to schedule an appointment.
