Reading Roundup: The Heist

Posted by Aaron on

The Mystery Book Club (Warrenton) met recently to discuss The Heist by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg. Fans of Evanonivch know her bounty hunter character, Stephanie Plum and her silly grandmother in her numbered series. “Tricky Twenty-Two,” the latest in the Plum series has recently arrived at the library. “The Heist” introduces us to FBI Agent Kate O’Hare and her partner in pursuit of a con man, Nicholas Fox. As the heist unfolds, the FBI decides (with a little conning of Fox) that Fox would be an “asset” in their quest to take down artifacts and stolen goods. Who better to track down a thief, than a thief himself? And that means Kate O’Hare will be in charge of overseeing Fox. the heist

“The Heist” is a quick, easy read; the plot is unrealistic and somewhat predictable, but it didn’t keep the group from reading it. We discussed the writing of Evanovich and how the group felt it was a better book because she co-authored with Goldberg. Lee Goldberg a television crime writer (Monk Series) compliments the unbelievable plots of Evanovich. Just like her Plum novels, The Fox and O’Hare series features a tough-talking gal heroine with a soft side; a handsome male con man, interesting supporting characters; and the hint of a developing personal relationship between agent and con man. If you want to see how the relationship between FBI agent and con man unfolds, you’ll have to check out the Fox and O’Hare series.
