e-Resource News: Automobiles – Advice & Guidance

For sale signs posted on automobilesThinking about buying a new car? Scheduling a tune-up? If you are looking for advice before you hit the dealer lots or service department, check out the following resources available through the Fauquier County Public Library:


  • Car and Driver – available in print or online via Zinio
  • Databases – Use your library card to log in to view articles and reviews from various magazines, journals and newspapers
  • N.A.D.A. appraisal guides (in print and online) – ask at the Reference Desk for access
  • Motor Trend – read online/download to your device via Zinio
  • The library also has the ALLDATA Online Repair Manuals database available for in-library use (Warrenton Library only). Features include:
    • Factory images, diagrams and diagnostic flow charts
    • Factory wiring diagrams with instructions
    • Maintenance tables for each year, make, model and engine
    • Parts and labor information for estimating repairs
    • Manufacturer’s technical service bulletins (TSBs) and recalls, updated daily

In Print

  • The Car Book by Jack Gillis REF 629.222 GIL (library use only)
  • Consumer Reports (available at the Reference Desk):
    • April – annual Used and New Car Buying Guide
    • October – annual Best and Worst New Car Preview

If you have an older vehicle and want to avoid paying a mechanic, in addition to ALLDATA Online, the library also carries the Chilton manuals.  Manuals available for check-out are mostly located in the 629 area of the non-fiction section.
