Staff Picks: Recommendations From Our Awesome Volunteers!

National Volunteer Week is April 12–18. The Fauquier County Public Library is fortunate to have about 170 volunteers who collectively contributed 4,000 hours last year.  They do many vital behind-the-scene tasks, but we’re putting them in the spotlight by featuring reviews of some of their favorite books.

Most of his novels feature Joe Pickett, a Wyoming fish/game warden, set in the beautiful “10 sleep” area of Wyoming. They are very good mystery/adventure books!

The Highway is a standalone novel set in Montana.  It is a fast-moving story featuring two young ladies driving to visit a boyfriend. Besides telling a good story it’s also a warning to all in present-day America—be alert and prepared! Plan ahead and know who is around you, be it in your library, local grocery store, any parking lot, etc.

Princess Pigsty by Cornelia Funke

Isabella is tired of being a princess! She is tired of having everything done for her: curling her hair, preparing meals, getting dressed—”Yuckety yuk!” So she throws her princess crown out the window and into the fishpond. And when she refuses to fetch her crown, her father, the king, sends her off to work in the kitchen… which she likes! Still not obeying the king, he sends her off to the pigsty!

A very fun book about a young lady who is determined to be herself no matter what… and to be happy!

The Crown & the Crucible by Michael Phillips

Riveting! A spell-binding and addicting story of poverty and wealth, jealousy and power in the reign of Tsar Nicholas of Russia. The characters seem so real and captivating. After reading the first book, I wanted to read all the others in the series. Treat yourself to a wonderful read. It won’t disappoint.

We extend our thanks and appreciation to all of our volunteers!
